Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. 1681 et. seq. (Title IX) prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs and activities that receive or benefit from Federal financial assistance. Generally, a provider may not exclude, deny or provide different or lesser services to applicants or beneficiaries on the basis of sex.

The Coleman School District Title IX Office receives and investigates complaints brought by parents and students alleging unlawful discrimination including discriminatory harassment, (such as sexual harassment, sexual violence or harassment based on a protected characteristic), intimidation, or bullying against any person in district programs and activities, including, but not limited to, those program or activities funded directly by or that receive or benefit from any state financial assistance, based on the person's actual or perceived characteristics or race or ethnicity, color, ancestry, natinoality, nation origin, ethnic group identification, age, religion, marital or parental status, physical or mental disability, sec, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or genetic information, or any other characteristic identified in Education Code 200 [12] or 220 [13], Government Code 11135 [14], or Penal Code 422.55 [15}, or based on the person's assocation with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics (5 CCR 4610). 

There are new Title IX regulations effective August 14, 2020 and CSD is in the process of completing required staff trainings, reviewing policies and procedures. 

How to File a Complaint

The District has adopted a grievance procedure and process that provides for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints by employees, students and other individuals alleging any action in violation of Title IX and/or its implementing regulations.  The grievance procedure and process are included in Policy 2266 (Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities).  This policy addresses how to report or file a Complaint of Sexual Discrimination or a Formal Complaint of Sexual Harassment, and how the District will respond. A copy of this policy can be accessed by going selecting Board Policies under the Heading District, then sub heading Board Policies, and selecting Policy 2266.  You may also request a copy by calling the district office (920-897-4011 option 4).  You may also contact the Title IX Coordinator list above. 

This notice will be provided to applicants for admission and employment; students, parents, or legal guardians of elementary and secondary school students; employees; and unions or professional organizations holding collective bargaining or professional agreements.
